So Salma and I have reached Bangladesh safe and sound! We spent three days in Singapore. That was alot of fun. Singapore is such a world of difference from Bangladesh: the cleanest city I've ever seen! We had a great time with Wes's girlfriend Hnin Oo Wai, and she showed us around town. We had alot of fun shopping in little India and China town, and exploring the downtown area by the signature Singapore icon, the merlion statue. We also saw a few beautiful temples. And we went out by the ocean. And--this is to make Ken jealous--we had some DELICIOUS chili crabs...the combination of spicy and sweet was wonderful! So you can drool:
It was a really enjoyable three days! My favorite part, perhaps, was getting a foot massage by a reflexology specialist. Mmmmm, that was soooo good. Fascinating how there are so many trigger points in your feet that relax tension. I felt worlds better after getting the massage.
Anyway, we've been in Dhaka for a couple of days now, and we're having a blast with Azfar and the family. It's so good to see Azfar again. Salma was thrilled to see abba, and immediately they sat for a long time and told stories to each other. He was worried she might be shy with him at first, but she just jumped into his arms. I was also little worried about how Salma would manage here, since she's forgotten alot of her Bangla, but it seems to not really be an issue at all. Salma and Jasra were soooooooo excited to see each other that Salma refused to sleep next to me at night--she wanted to sleep by Jasra! I took them and Audrey swimming today, and they had a blast. I'm still recovering from jet lag, but feeling much better now, since I already had a few days to catch up on sleep in Singapore. Anyway, more soon. I'll put some photos online.
