Here I am in my little office in the English department at Oklahoma State University.

Second Singapore Trip!

Salma and I stopped through Singapore again for a couple of days, on our way back to the US. Salma loved the water play area at the science museum, and we had a great time with Hnin Oo Wai on Sentosa Island. They have a fabulous aquarium there with a moving sidewalk that goes through the fish tank. And we watched a great dolphin show. But Salma's favorite part was definitely playing on the beach!

Mendhi for the trip

Urmi is putting mendhi (henna) on me, for the trip home.

New Year's Party!

We had a fabulous time celebrating the New Year with our friends in Dhaka. We sang and danced, late into the night (or morning!).

Christmas in Bangladesh

Santa Clause comes to Bangladesh too, you know! We had a great Christmas, with our inventive Christmas tree. Santa came in the night, despite the fact that we had no chimney. (Salma was worried about that.) But he came and brought a doll house for Salma and Jasra and a cricket bat for Audrey!

Amader Prathshala: A School for Poor Children

One of my favorite memories of this trip was visiting a free school for poor children that our friends have organized. It's a wonderful school with a philosophy that they want to empower the children, and teach them a whole range of subjects from math to history, not just teach them literacy, which is what some of the NGO schools do, unfortunately. This school desperately needs help with funding, as more and more children ask to be enrolled. Please contact me if you want to help!

Sundarbans Trip

Here are a few photos from our trip to the Sundarbans. Salma was dissapointed that we didn't get to see any tigers, but we did see a crocodile, some deer, birds, fish, and...A MONSTER! (I didn't see it, but Salma did.) We had alot of fun riding on the roof of our boat as we cruised up the river in one of the few remaining protected natural habitats of Bangladesh.
